Iceland, brrr

8th-11th March 2012
Aside from the 'turbulent' spring weather including but not limited to blue sky & sun followed by a snow storm followed by black skies & more snow (think 4 extreme seasons not in a day but in an hour) Iceland was amazing!
The main purpose for visiting Iceland was to see the Northern Lights and we weren't disappointed. After an hour long wait (clear skies followed by a quick blizzard then back to clear skies) our patience was rewarded with a large ribbon of green, slowly moving about plus a few sprays of red.

This photo was taken by our tour guide.

We also spent a bit of time exploring the sights of note close to the capital including the majestic Gullfoss waterfalls...

Impressively high spurting Geysir...

And the rift valley where the North American & European tectonic plates meet. No photos of this however as we were hit by a blizzard & the camera didn't like the conditions!
For a bit of R & R after all our tourist jaunts we hit the Blue Lagoon, the geo-thermal spa, to rest our weary, windswept bones.
