Easter Road Trip

5th-9th April 2012
To make the most of the four day long weekend over Easter, we set off on a driving adventure to see some of the sights of south-west England.  We were excited to see our vehicle was a sporty red Fiat 500-perfect for zipping around the English countryside!

First stop was Bath.  It was as gorgeous as everyone had described it to be and we made sure we were one of the first of many tourists to enter the Roman Baths in order to beat the tourists.Unfortunately we weren't able to go into the Abbey, Bath's other famed landmark.

Nice and quiet early in the morning
We could still marvel at the stonework on the exterior of the Abbey

After a wander around the old cobblestone lanes of the old town we headed to our next destination, a little town called Mary Tavy on the outskirts of the Dartmoor National Park, Devon.

After surveying the landscape we noticed a tiny church perched atop a rocky hill and on a whim decided to visit it.  Despite the climb necessary to reach the church, the views were very much appreciated.

From our base of Mary Tavy we tackled the 'Cornish Lanes', stopping at the popular town of St Ives, followed by Land's End, England's most southerly point, then onto the precariously positioned Minack Theatre and lastly, Penzance.

We were sad to leave the friendly and cosy Mary Tavy Inn but our journey must continue!     Our next destination was Salisbury, Wiltshire and on the way we stopped at Sidmouth and Beer, two sea side villages.  The first was  a little like a resort town but with magnificent surroundings and the second, a cute little village with equally impressive landscape.

Our final leg of the adventure was a quick visit to the immense Salisbury Cathedral and mysterious stone circle at Avebury.  The weather was miserable but didn't hamper our tourist spirit!

We managed to cover an impressive 700+miles over the weekend and didn't get lost once!
